Born to Kaikhushru and Thrity Colabavala in Mumbai on April 13, 1952, Jimmy ascended heavenwards on May 16, 2025.
While he had a successful career as a tax practitioner for 40 years and loved his job, Jimmy’s real passions were cricket and horse racing and he won numerous trophies for his accomplishments in both fields.
In Los Angeles, Jimmy served as President of the Hollywood Cricket Club, Treasurer of the Southern California Cricket Association (SCCA), and Vice President of the Western Zone of the USA Cricket Club. He contributed several articles to Wisden, Sportsweek, CCI Souvenir and Hyderabad Blues Souvenir, and wrote a very well received book called “Cricket’s Unforgettable Cliffhangers.”
In Mumbai, Jimmy graduated from Podar College, completed his law degree from Government Law College. He went on to become a Chartered Accountant and practiced in the prestigious firm of Billimoria.
In 1982, he migrated to the US and started his tax practice.
His life took a turn in 1990s when he met and married his wife Meher Tatna Together they trotted all over the globe, leaving a footprint in over 40 countries spanning five continents.
A classmate of tabla player Zakir Hussain, he enjoyed both Indian classical and western pop music – Celine Dion and Whitney Houston being his favorite artists.
Jimmy will be greatly missed as a generous, patient, soft spoken and very kind man by the numerous friends he made in his life.
He is survived by his wife Meher, his sister Mahrukh and his nephews Huzan and Percy.
He will truly be missed by all of us.
